Diana’s Bio: Diana, her husband Michael, and their two girls, both certified divers, live just outside of Eugene, OR, along with five horses, two dogs, two cats and an unknown number of fish.  All keep her very busy.  She received her first taste of scuba in 1990 in a lake in Michigan, and was hooked.  Several years later she visited the Pacific Northwest and decided to relocate to finish college.  She attended the University of Oregon from 1994 – 1997, graduating with a degree in Biology.  During her time at the U of O, she became a PADI Scuba Instructor and taught scuba classes thru the University and thru Eugene Skin Divers Supply.

Since becoming an instructor, she has actively continued her education and currently holds a PADI IDC Staff Instructor certification, DAN Professional Instructor rating and she is an AAUS Scientific Diver.

After receiving her degree in Biology, she moved to Vancouver, WA to pursue a computer programming career, while continuing to teach SCUBA thru Eugene Skin Divers Supply.  In 1999 she returned to Eugene, OR, married Michael and became a partner in Eugene Skin Divers Supply.

In 2000, she wrote the PADI Habitat Diver Specialty for the Oregon Coast Aquarium to train volunteer divers for the Aquarium. This is the outline that is still in use at the Aquarium and currently she and Michael teach several classes a year for the Oregon Coast Aquarium.

In 2007, she attended a fundraising event in Tacoma and realized the need for local cancer fundraising.  In 2008 she started Dive for a Cure to raise money for the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute.  Dive for a Cure has consistently grown each year.  This family event is OHSU Knight Cancer Institute’s largest grassroots fundraiser.  Since 2008, Dive for a Cure has partnered with many local businesses, Dr Pepper and Burger King to raise over $500,000.00, with participants throughout the US.

Dive for a Cure: Dive for a Cure is a fun, family event for all ages.  There is a diving poker run, an on-land fin race, a bouncy ball race, kids games, kids snorkeling, silent auction, raffle prizes, a duck race and new this year…SCUBA (bingo for SCUBA divers).  Please join us for the fun, educational presentation from OHSU Knight Cancer Institute and the all-around feel good event.  Lunch is provided for everyone attending, there are lots of trips, artwork, wine and bed and breakfast auction items to bid on.  Tons of SCUBA gear raffle and awards presented.  We are bringing families and divers together for the common goal of raising money for cancer research.  The Dive for a Cure event is being held this year at the Woahink Lake Picnic shelter, from 9 am – 4 pm, September 17th.  Please join us whether you plan on diving or for the experience.
