March Guest Speaker Rick Stratton, Publisher Dive News Network

Rick Stratton is a retired Navy pilot who lives on Whidbey Island. He is the founding publisher of Northwest Dive News magazine, now Scuba & H2O Adventure Magazine, and has been an active northwest diver for more than 20 years.  He enjoys both cold and warm water diving as well as SUP, kayak and fishing.

Rick lives on a farm with his family and a plethora of animals. He is an active scout leader and volunteer with a number of non-profit organizations including The Burned Children Recovery Foundation.
He is a former member of the board of directors of DEMA (Diving Equipment and Marketing Association) and is the Vice President of the Washington Scuba Alliance (WSA).

In 2004 Rick founded the Dive and Travel Expo in Tacoma Washington.  He is the Executive Producer of the show this year, now called the Scuba and Watersports Expo. This year’s show is April 20-22, 2018,  at the Tacoma Convention & Trade Center.

Rick is currently working with WSA President Jim Trask, the State of Washington Governmental Affairs Director Mike Racine and others to affect change and promote the development of new and existing dive sites in the Puget Sound area.  The State of Washington has committed to paying for half of any projects and Rick and his partners have a list of 10 sites they are working on.  Work is currently in the fund raising stage and Rick plans to tell us what our club could do to help support these projects.
